MARCHING PERCUSSION ARRANGING
I’m an experienced marching percussion arranger for battery and front ensemble, including synthesizer, guitar, and electric bass. I’ve written for DCI SoundSport, Division III NCAA, and high school programs.
My focus is first and foremost to write for the students. No one will hear the show more often, know it more personally, have as deep a relationship with it, or remember it longer than the marching members actually performing on the field — so that’s who I write for. Fans, parents, alumni, adjudicators, and staff are of course a consideration — but the most important audience members are the ones in uniform. Every show I write is designed for every student to learn something, whether it be technique development, vocabulary expansion, or taking their first steps into a larger world, and I hope every player I write for has a ‘wow, that’s cool!’ moment every time they get a new chart from me.
My process is as collaborative as the client wants — some shows have been no more than ‘here’s the show concept, here are the files, I trust you.’ And other shows have been months of design team meetings, drafts and rewrites.
I design every bar of every part to be engaging for the student performing it — and supportive of the overall show concept within the context of the program commissioning it.
